Building a matcha brand
Lately, I’ve been drinking a lot of matcha—not just for fun, but because I’m working on launching my own brand. It’s exciting, but also way more work than I expected. There’s always something new to figure out, whether it’s sourcing, packaging, or logistics. Still, I enjoy the process. Every challenge is a chance to learn, and I like seeing everything slowly come together.
One thing that has been surprisingly complicated is setting up an online shop in Germany. The legal side of things is… intense. There are so many rules about labeling, taxes, and website policies that I never really thought about before. It’s taking more time than I hoped, but I know it’s important to get everything right.
On the fun side, I’ve been tasting a lot of matcha—probably more than ever before. Trying different varieties side by side has helped me refine my palate and understand the small differences in flavor, texture, and aroma. It makes me appreciate matcha even more, and honestly, I love having an excuse to drink it all the time.
All of this also makes me realize how much I miss my tea ceremony lessons. I haven’t been able to attend lately, but I’m glad I can still use what I learned. The way matcha is prepared, the movements, the little details—those things stay with you. Even though I’m focused on the business side now, I still want to keep that connection to the tradition and experience behind matcha.
There’s a lot left to do, but I’m excited about what’s ahead. Step by step, it’s all coming together, and I can’t wait to share more soon!
